Week 3 Milestones
Milestones this week:
1) Creation of College Math Skunkworks Blog. :)
2) Capturing images of student board-work.
This process was done with my iPhone4. Took pictures of student work (on whiteboards) during class, then transferred the images from iPhone to my computer. Uploaded images from computer to the CMS blog. Early stage proof-of-concept, getting images onto blog.
3) Capturing images of student board-work, with real-time posting to CMS blog.
Uploading images to my computer, then posting to the CMS blog, was WAY too time consuming! Knew there had to be a more efficient method. Discovered how to take picture of student work during class, and then MMS (text) image to CMS blog. PRESTO! Instant blog posts, LIVE from the class. If only Moodle had this ability! ;)
Still in Development:
1) Acquisition of East/West whiteboards
The "track-mount" mini-whiteboards ordered for new lecture rooms have proven unpopular. If standard 4 x 12 whiteboards are ordered for replacements, my hope is to mount the orphaned mini-whiteboards on the East/West walls of our classroom. Fingers-crossed...
2) Acquisition of Smart Board
Rumor has it that a Smart Board, purchased a few years ago by another department, may have become available due to personal and classroom relocation. I'm not a Smartboard fan (where's the wireless model, SMART Technologies?), but maybe students will "seize the day", and show this old dog some new tricks. A Smart Board would make a nice addition to our room, stay tuned...
3) Implementation of Mimio Whiteboard capture
A Mimio Whiteboard capture system was acquired from a gracious faculty member (THANKS DEB!). Got the system installed, but calibration settings are complicated, and preliminary testing suggests that the overhead florescent lights are causing IR and Ultrasonic interference with the system. A work in progress, stay tuned...
